Producers - FAQ
Where should agents register?
Fresh produce, export and livestock agents are compelled by law to register with the Agricultural Produce Agents Council (APAC). Producers will not be able to receive the benefits and security involved if they make use of unregistered agents.
How do producers benefit from the services of a registered agent?
An agent registered with APAC is bound by a code of conduct. This code of conduct has been instituted to maintain and promote the status and dignity of the agents’ profession, as well as the integrity of persons practicing this profession. The code of conduct requires amongst others that an agent should have an above average knowledge of his product.
In addition as for fresh produce agents, the producer will have peace of mind knowing that he will be accountable for his produce should the fresh produce agent become insolvent or otherwise be prevented from making full payments to producers.
How does the producer know that the agent of choice is registered with the APAC?
They can either contact APAC on 011 894 3680 or check on the website under registered agents.
